Dental Soft Tissue Regeneration Market Analysis | United States | 2020-2026 | MedCore

Dental soft tissue regeneration devices are used to facilitate the regeneration of soft tissue, either in response to soft tissue recession or during a dental implant procedure. Applications for the devices include soft tissue augmentation around dental implants, root coverage, gingival augmentation and soft tissue ridge augmentation. The two main classes of dental soft tissue regeneration products are allografts (human tissue-derived) and xenografts (non-human animal tissue-derived). This market does not include alloplasts, as these products fall into the barrier membrane category.

The dura mater is a tough, fibrous membrane that surrounds and protects the tissues of the brain and spinal cord. Dural repair is primarily performed for head and spinal injuries where a laceration has occurred to the dura, and for neurosurgical procedures in which the dura is required to be opened or removed to gain access to the bones or delicate tissues within. In both cases, effective dural closure is imperative to prevent cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage and permit proper and expeditious wound healing. Since CSF leaks often result in extra time and cost associated with patient care, dural repair performed with appropriate devices is integral for significant savings for surgeons and patients.

Breast reconstruction following mastectomy for treatment of cancer is becoming increasingly popular in the United States. Breast reconstruction is a plastic surgery procedure in which the shape of the breast is rebuilt. The number of these reconstructive procedures represents less than 30% of plastic surgery breast augmentation procedures. Breast reconstruction is typically performed after mastectomy, although not all mastectomy patients elect to have reconstructive surgery. Elderly patients are not only less likely to opt for breast reconstruction surgery, but are less likely to proceed with a mastectomy following breast cancer diagnosis. The incidence of breast cancer has been increasing in women under the age of 40, and this population is much more likely not only to proceed with mastectomy, but to follow up with a breast reconstruction procedure. Over 130,000 mastectomies were performed in the U.S. in 2016, and of these, over 70% of patients elected for breast reconstruction surgery. This percentage was significantly higher in the U.S. compared with other countries. Therefore, in the United States, the number of breast reconstruction procedures is highly correlated with the number of mastectomies performed. The Womens Health and Cancer Rights Act (WHCRA), established in 1998, ensures full reimbursement for most procedures done on women with breast cancer who elect to have their breasts rebuilt following mastectomy. The procedure is extremely involved and is done in an inpatient setting. Breast reconstructions have started to be conducted immediately after the mastectomy procedure to reduce recovery time.

Vaginal slings or urinary incontinence slings are medical devices placed under the urethra through a small incision to treat incontinence symptoms. Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) can be classified in three forms: intrinsic sphincter deficiency (ISD), urethral hypermobility or male loss of internal and external sphincter functionality. Slings are commonly used in women who have urethral hypermobility. A sling will stop the hypermobility, but the patient may still have stress urinary incontinence due to an intrinsic sphincter deficiency (ISD). ISD occurs when the urethral sphincter is unable to generate enough resting pressure to prevent urine from seeping out. Urethral hypermobility, also known as Type II SUI, is due to weakened anatomic urethral support, often caused by childbearing. Male loss of sphincter functionality is relatively rare. Vaginal slings directly compete with bulking agents; however, slings are considered the leading technology for treating SUI.

Soft tissue repair devices used for skin repair are unique in the sense that they are laid directly over the skin. This separates skin repair devices from soft tissue repair devices used for other indications that require complex surgical implantation. This report will focus on a specific class of skin repair wound dressings called interactive wound dressings. Interactive dressings are designed to work synergistically with the bodys healing process, similarly to other soft tissue repair devices. Interactive dressings become involved with the bodys physiology and mimic substances in the bodys wound healing pathways that are lacking in situations with chronic wounds or in burn patients. The interactive dressings market includes skin substitutes and collagen dressings.
