In a new partnership in the dental imaging landscape, Lucerne-based 4th-IR and Vancouver-based Apteryx Imaging Inc. are in the works of developing a cloud-based AI Solution which will provide new key product features for dentists. This new dental imaging solution will provide radiographic quality assurance, diagnostic decisions support and enhanced specialist reporting. The first service to be produced in 2019 is the cloud-based QA digital radiography quality assurance service. By utilizing computer vision, this new system will be able to automatically recognize and report typical errors found in x-ray image acquisitions.

According to iData Research’s findings, the intraoral imaging market is experiencing very slight negative growth, restricted by the decline in the consumables market. As the United States is continuing to transition away from analog film to digital technology, the consumables market is expected to be cut nearly in half by 2025. The intraoral device market is relatively stable, due to a lack of innovation, the maturity of the market, low growth in the number of dentists and consolidating dental clinics. While this new technology from Apteryx and 4th-IR is following market trends, newer technologies may have a slower adoption rate from dentists based on the markets activity.

During a press release, CEO of Apteryx Imaging Dr. David Gane stated that “4th-IR brings tremendous depth and experience in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning development to us, providing many development synergies along with the opportunity for geographical expansion. We are very pleased to have 4th-IR as a partner on our journey to help build the future of dental imaging.”

The rest of Apteryx Imaging Inc. and 4th-IR product range like image feature recognition and clinical diagnostic decision support products have a launch date targeted for 2020.
