In a recent success for Siemens Healthineers, their ARTIS icono angiography systems has won clearance from the FDA. The system consists of two segments; the ARTIS icono biplane and the icono floor. The biplane provides an improved view of structures that are difficult to precisely locate, as well as providing enhanced 2D/3D imaging to deliver a higher quality implementation of neurointerventions and interventional radiology. The icono floor is a multi-axis floor system designed for cardiology, interventional cardiology and surgical procedures.

Lara Barghout, Senior Vice President and Head of Advanced Therapies, Siemens Healthineers North America says that “the ARTIS icono family of angiography systems will have nothing short of a revolutionary impact on our customers and on the delivery of healthcare in general, by setting new standards for image quality and optimized workflow in minimally invasive procedures.” She further added on that “as more hospitals introduce comprehensive stroke services to treat more patients who are eligible for thrombectomies, the ARTIS icono biplane raises the bar in consistent 3D image quality for whole-brain imaging.”

According to a market analysis from iData Research, the development of new technologies will drive the medical imaging equipment market. As new technologies are released, the average selling price of imaging systems will increase. This new product by Siemens follows this trend and creates opportunities for this market to advance, but it will also face the typical financial barriers from medical facilities who are limited in purchasing new technologies.

According to Siemens, the ARTIS icono Angiography system “redesigns image processing for 2D imaging” and will work on patients of all sizes.
