Intuitive Surgical, a world leader in minimally invasive care and robotic-assisted systems, sets to expand its integrated informatics platform by acquiring Orpheus Medical.

Orpheus Medical will continue to operate independently, becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of Intuitive Surgical.

Orpheus Medical stores surgical videos and images to an archive accessible to hospitals worldwide. Videos and images are automatically saved in patients’ medical records to ensure proper documentation and immediately provide health care practitioners with valuable health informatics.

Intuitive’s senior vice president of corporate development, Julian Nikolchev believes that:

“The addition of Orpheus will provide customers —including surgeons, patient care teams and hospitals—with ready access to and a deeper understanding of their data, which we believe may help our customers improve patient outcomes and lower total treatment costs.”

Orpheus Medical’s CEO, Gaddi Menahmen believes that the acquisition will allow more patients and their doctors to have quicker and easier access to their data.

Video Hi-Tech Market Analysis

Fully integrated operating rooms are predominantly profit centers for hospitals. Increasing the workflow and efficiency, not only benefits the patient, but also the hospital and staff. Numerous newer functions, such as archiving, streaming, video conferencing and workflow enhancement, have become standard facets of integration in recent years.

Hybrid operating rooms take integration to the next level by adding a dedicated fixed imaging system and an advanced image-guided surgical table into the mix. These operating rooms provide versatile solutions that save hospitals critical time and provide flexibility to perform open and minimally invasive surgeries.
