In a multinational distribution deal for the iTero Element family of intraoral scanners, Zimmer Biomet has partnered with Align Technology. While specific details of the partnership are not available, both organizations believe that this will expand Zimmer Biomets presence in the digital restorative dentistry solutions market.
Align Technologies iTero scanners are created to improve both the speed and visualization capacity in intraoral imaging. Digital processes for dental professionals and labs will be streamlined for business to business partnerships while offering patients an optimal treatment experience.
According to iData Research’s latest market analysis, the digital dentistry market will be driven by lab consolidation. Larger consolidated labs often own more than one system, and are more likely to invest in premium machinery. Ongoing consolidation will also have a positive impact on the placement rate of rapid prototyping systems, thereby encouraging unit sales growth in the market overall.
iTero SVP and managing director Yuval Shaked stated that they are “excited to be partnering with Zimmer Biomet to demonstrate our companies’ commitment to supporting dental professionals on their journey to digital dentistry.” He further added that “a key differentiator in the evolution to a digital practice and dental ecosystem is clinical education. Through this partnership, the iTero scanner becomes the preferred intraoral scanner used in the U.S. and European Zimmer Biomet Institutes, which train thousands of dental professionals annually in an interactive learning environment with the ultimate goal of improved clinical outcomes.”
The iTero product range of intraoral scanner is available in Europe through Zimmer Biomet Dental. Plans for expanding distribution are set for October in the U.S., Canada and Japan.
