  The combined Chinese knee reconstruction device market is worth nearly half a billion dollars. Long-term growth will be driven by the increasing demand for total and revision knee surgeries in China. In 2015, total knee implants were the largest segment of the market, comprising the majority of the combined knee market. In contrast, the revision knees market is the smallest segment. However, unit sales of this segment will grow rapidly due to the increased demand for revision surgery in younger patients. Since the lifespan of knee implants is normally 15 years, the implants on younger patients will not last to the end of their life and will thus require revision. read more}

  The largest and fastest growing segment in the breast imaging market is digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), accounting for over 50% of the thriving breast imaging industry. DBT combines tomography with digital radiography (DR) to render an image of the breast with 3D information. A physician is able to look through multiple layers of breast tissue rather than having to see all layers in one image as in traditional 2D mammography. DBT has been taking over DR’s market. However, the DR market is still strong, with just under a quarter of the overall market. read more}

  A new study in the Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, tested various dental restorative CAD/CAM composites and has found that lithium disilicate glass ceramic had the highest flexural strength, but all the materials were found to be satisfactory in terms of their mechanical and optical properties. Overall, the German researchers found that CAD/CAM composites presented moderate flexural strength and high translucency, as well as exhibited antagonist-friendly behavior. On the materials side, they reported that glass ceramic demonstrated the most favorable discoloration rate and lowest two-body wear. read more}
