Today, one in every 20 Japanese women will be diagnosed with breast cancer according to the Japanese Society of Breast Health. The Japanese Government issued free vouchers for breast cancer screenings and it was estimated that 86.9% of respondents intended to use them. There is a clear trend in this market towards more screening, and as imaging tools improve cancerous areas will be more easily detected and an increased number of breast biopsies are expected to be performed. The number of recipients of breast cancer screening is expected to increase over the forecast period to 2018, with the number of these procedures growing at a CAGR of 5.2. As awareness for breast cancer increases and the demographic of women aged 40 years and above grows, the number of breast biopsies is expected to increase as well. By 2018, the market for breast biopsy devices is expected to grow at a CAGR of 11.1% to reach over $25 million.
