One of the difficulties of conducting a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedure is that patients often feel claustrophobic when entering a traditional machine. This is due to the machine’s cylindrical shape as well as its tight enclosure.
Paramed Medical Systems recently released the MrOpen, the first U-shaped MRI machine. The equipment features an open top, which is expected to decrease patient anxiety and open up new clinical flexibility for MRI procedures.
The first and only existing MrOpen machine was installed in Sicily, Italy. However, the second machine is due to be installed at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada.
