Spectranetics Corporation has received reimbursement approval for the Spectranetics Laser Sheath (SLS® II) in Japan.

This device is used for the removal of defibrillator cardiac leads and pacemakers that are not functioning properly.  The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare approved the use of the device in Japan, and this is Spectranetics’ first product to have both regulatory and reimbursement approval in Japan.

According to EP Lab Digest, Spectranetics will initially focus on the training of medical professionals in lead extraction before moving on to the widespread marketing and sales of their devices.
