Since their introduction into the market in 2006, PEEK anchors have become a popular choice for shoulder labrum repair procedures. In 2010, the material design was modified by Parcus Medical, which introduced PEEK CF suture anchors into the U.S. market. These anchors are marketed with increased strength over traditional PEEK anchors, due to the carbon fiber added to the design.
The labrum is a ring of cartilage that circles the end of the shoulder blade (the glenoid). This stabilizes the shoulder joint and allows for a wide range of movement. A common type of labral tear is the SLAP lesion, which is an acronym for superior labral anterior to posterior.
