Global Peripheral Thrombus Management Market Trends

Thrombectomy procedures are much higher priced than drug treatments, balloon angioplasty and stenting. In fact, physicians are using simple guide catheters and long sheaths to access the lesion to manually aspirate the thrombus. In order to minimize costs, hospitals will use these alternative procedures when possible.
Global Peripheral Thrombus Management Market Share Insights

- Inari Medical swiftly gained significant market share through its ClotTriever® and FlowTriever® devices, both capable of use without thrombolytics, resulting in significantly reduced treatment times for patients. FlowTriever®, approved in 2018, is the second approved device specifically designed for PE treatment and has garnered a substantial share of the market due to its premium pricing compared with EkoSonic®. ClotTriever®, indicated for use in the peripheral vasculature, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) treatment, caters to another rapidly growing market. Inari Medical is well positioned to further expand and increase its market share.
- Penumbra focused solely on the traditional thrombectomy market segment, offering the INDIGO® CAT®, Separator® and Pump MAX™ product families. These products are primarily used in arterial and venous applications. The INDIGO® CAT® and Separator catheters work together with the Pump MAX™ console, although the console is not covered in this analysis.
- BTG held the leading position in the total U.S. peripheral thrombus management market prior to its acquisition by Boston Scientific in August 2019. Following the acquisition, Boston Scientific became the third-leading competitor in the total market in 2024. Historically, BTG secured its leadership through a dominant presence in the pharmacomechanical thrombectomy (PMT) segment, where it captured nearly two-thirds of the market with its EkoSonic® system. With ownership of the only two products in the PMT category, Boston Scientific has maintained a strong share, competing in two of the fastest-growing thrombectomy segments: deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). The AngioJet® Peripheral Thrombectomy System represents the remaining share of the PMT market.
