Product Description

A primary implant replaces both articulating sides of a joint. The two main divisions of elbow implants are semi-constrained and unconstrained implants. Semi-constrained implants have a humeral and ulnar component linked together in a hinged joint. Unconstrained implants are similar to resurfacing implants for other areas of the body and preserve more bone stock.
Although unconstrained implants produce a more natural motion than hinged implants, the potential for instability remains a concern. This has limited their acceptance in the market.

The elbow naturally operates as a hinge joint, with the majority of the natural range of motion occurring on one plane, although it also includes a rotational component. The joint involves the articulation of three bones: the humerus, the radius and the ulna. The articulation of the head of the radius on the ulna allows for forearm pronation and supination, resulting in the ability to rotate the wrist.
