Growth of the denture market is dictated by a couple of factors, including the aging population. The elderly population in the United States consists of the largest demographic of edentulous patients. As such, growth of the elderly population will increase the potential volume of patients for denture procedures, thereby stimulating market growth. In addition, the rate of immigration into the U.S. is reinforcing market growth as immigrants who previously did not have dental insurance may suddenly have coverage and facilitate growth of the denture market.
Dentures are available as full and partial devices. Full dentures are required when a patient is edentulous whereas partial dentures cater to patients that are missing some, but not all teeth. Partial dentures are growing in popularity as Americans are requiring fewer full arch replacements with improved oral health. Partials can be made with either a rigid or flexible framework. Rigid frameworks are often fabricated out of plastic or a light alloy such as titanium or chrome cobalt. Flexible partials are gaining popularity as they offer patients an increased level of comfort.
Conventionally, dentures are fully removable but there are some designs that rely on bonding or clasping onto teeth and dental implants. For the sake of this report, implant-based overdentures will not be included in the estimates for the denture market.

Denture Market Share Insights
The dentures market is highly fragmented and competitive. The nature of dentures allows many laboratories to compete in this market, although the market does have some large players leading, particularly in the United States.
The leading company in the United States, Affordable Dentures, only leads by a small margin ahead of Aspen Dental. Aspen Dental has recently gained share over the previous year through their high lab volume, exceeding 400 labs. This is in great contrast to the mere 30 U.S. labs that National Dentex operates, but still competes very strongly in this market. ClearChoice Dental Implant Centers’ share is entirely due to their activity within the immediate denture market as they tend to extract patients’ teeth prior to receiving dental implants. To avoid toothless patients in between the stages of dental implant surgery, ClearChoice immediate dentures are used as a transitional appliance.
