In 2021, the U.S. crown & bridge market size is projected to reach $6 billion, with the dental crown segment showing the fastest growth. In spite of COVID19, the U.S. market size is expected to reach $6.6 billion in 2027.
The crown and bridge market yielded an increase over the previous year. This relatively notable growth was due to a recovery in the price for metals associated with PFM restorations in 2017. However, the market is experiencing slower growth overall as oral health care improves in the United States. Moreover, the still significant full-cast and PFM segments are shrinking in terms of unit sales. Patient preferences for aesthetically pleasing crowns and bridges will facilitate ongoing declines in the volume of full-cast and PFM materials as the market becomes more centralized around ceramic alternatives
Crowns and bridges are custom-designed hardware made from metal alloys and/or ceramic materials to restore tooth structure and are the most common prosthetic device used in dentistry. Crowns are usually bonded to the prepared tooth; however, implant-based crowns are frequently used on dental implants. Crowns may be bonded to a dental implant when a tooth is completely missing. A bridge consists of multiple crowns and at least one pontic, which is a tooth-like device held in place by adjacent crowns.
