Foot and Ankle Devices Market Analysis | Japan | 2019-2025 | MedCore
Arthrodesis, or joint fusion, fixes the bones of a joint together and eliminates the joints articular function. It is considered to be the standard in the treatment of arthritis. Motion may be assumed by the surrounding unfused joints to compensate, but the fixation has a side effect of placing these surrounding joints at further risk of degeneration. Joint fusion is accomplished through various metal devices, most of which are similar to those used in internal fixation for traumatic injury purposes.
Arthroplasty is the reconstruction of a joint by means of replacement with an implanted device. Failed joint fusions can be revised, although repeated surgeries are associated with an increased risk of infection and limb shortening.

Arteriovenous (AV) is the most common method of access for hemodialysis treatment in patients that are suffering from end-stage renal disease (ESRD). AV access can be achieved via either AV fistula or AV graft. The fistula can be made in an extremity, typically in the forearm, where an artery and vein are surgically connected. This connection matures and strengthens over a period of four to six weeks. Native fistulae offer the best patency and durability, in addition to limiting complications such as post-dialysis bleeding and infection. A native fistula is the preferred access technique.

An AV fistula needle enables access to the patients circulatory system and permits the flow of blood from the patient, to the dialyzers blood compartment and then back into the patients bloodstream. An AV fistula needle is used for patients with either an AV fistula or an AV graft; however, they are not required for patients implanted with a dialysis catheter.
