The U.S. anesthesia, respiratory and sleep-management device market will reach approximately $4 billion by 2017.

Market growth will be driven by high sales of anesthesia information management systems (AIMS), which work to automate data collection in the anesthesia department, streamline work-flow, improve electronic records and decrease malpractice claims. Dramatic investment in this market is an effort by healthcare providers to comply with deadlines set out by the U.S. government’s Healthcare Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.  Picis, GE Healthcare, Draeger, IMDsoft, Merge and Philips are competing for market share in this segment, which will almost triple in value by 2017.
